Instructional Design Models (ADDIE vs ID4T)

As we learn instructional design in our second week of class, we were required to compare two instructional design models, which is ID4T to any other model. As for me, I pick the ADDIE model as a comparison to ID4T.

ADDIE

The ADDIE model is one of the most famous types of model in instructional design. This model retained a five step approach, which is also much more detailed in its' subset. The five steps are Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate formed the name, ADDIE.

ID4T

ID4T or Instructional Design For Teachers is also a model for instructional designs. The model is split into nine processes. The creator Carr-Chellman suggests in this model for educators to be “creative with your activities/media, test your instruction, revise, do instructional design all the time”.

Comparison between ID4T & ADDIE model

ID4T

ADDIE

Nine steps

·         Setting goal

·         Create learning objectives

·         Analyse student characteristics

·         Wring test

·         Selecting material

·         Develop activities

·         Selecting media

·         Implementing lesson

·         Revising lesson

Five steps

·         Analyse

                                i.            Environment

                              ii.            Students

                            iii.            Contents

·         Design

                                i.            To suit the objectives

                              ii.            To suit the students

·         Develop

                                i.            Based on the design

·         Implement

                                i.            Making tests/trials on colleagues, friends

ii.            Make a questionnaire for feedback

·         Evaluate

                                i.            The students

                              ii.            Using assessments

Mainly focused on the students

Focus on students but act as a basis for teachers/educators

Can be done in hierarchal order and can be done by repeating the steps to complete the process

Have to complete the process step by step in hierarchal order

Conclusion

Despite both of the models is pretty different on their own, both, ID4T model and the ADDIE model, can be used in conjunction together. As both focus on teaching, types of teaching, and evaluating students, applying both models together could help and increase the education process in the classroom.

That is all for today. :)
